The Psychology Department at Mount Olive College invites applications for two full-time positions to start January, 2006 and August 2006.We seek broadly trained persons committed to undergraduate teaching, with the ability to teach both traditional and non-traditional students in a variety of formats.Responsibilities include teaching four courses in each of two terms, student advising, and service to the College.

Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in some area of Psychology.Specialty is open.Highly desirable areas of interest/ability include cognition, learning, statistics, memory, physiological psychology, lifespan development, and child development.Preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach a variety of courses and have research interests that invite student involvement.

Mount Olive College, a private liberal arts institution with multiple locations, is affiliated with the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists.Located in Eastern North Carolina, the College serves approximately 3,800 students per year in an environment nurtured by Christian values.

Essential Requirements:

  • Possess terminal degree and expertise in specialty area within Psychology
  • Possess experience in teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Demonstrate personal and professional values consistent with the College Covenant, and the have the ability to foster these qualities in others by example
  • Possess computer proficiency required by duties, including use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Relate to students, colleagues, and administrators in a professional manner
  • Ability to relate appropriately with all members of the College community
  • Be able to work with traditional and non-traditional students in multiple formats, including on-line courses
  • Be able to perform the physical requirements of the position which include, but are not limited to, sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time, using standard office equipment, moving about campus, and driving to the various locations of the College.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a professional demeanor which includes arriving on time for classes, keeping students for the entire period, presenting material and tests appropriate for the students in the course, and maintaining requisite number of office hours
  • Serve as faculty advisor to students and on College, School, and Department committees
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention
  • Attend Department, School, and Faculty meetings
  • Teach both day and evening classes at various locations
  • Involve students in research projects
