Scholarships & Awards
Braswell Teaching Scholarships
- $6,500 scholarships for freshmen and transfer students, renewable annually
- Selection criteria: 3.2 high school average; top 25% class rank; minimum 1020 SAT; nomination by student's high school teacher, principal, or community leader; an essay; and an interview, if requested
- Renewal criteria: major in education; completion of a minimum 30 semester hours each academic year; a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA as a freshman and a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA as a sophomore, junior, and senior, with no failing grade at any time; participation in the activities of the teacher education program, including active membership in the Prospective Teachers Association
Braswell Award
The Braswell Award is given at Awards Day to the teacher education major who has demonstrated academic excellence, professional service, and personal growth as determined by the teacher education faculty.
Edgerton Award
The Louise Edgerton Preparatory Senior Teacher Award is a $1,000 award given annually to a senior education major selected by the Teacher Education Committee for academic excellence and promise as a prospective teacher. The announcement is made at Awards Day, and the $1,000 is given when the student graduates.
PTA Award
The Prospective Teachers Association Award is given to the PTA member selected by the Executive Committee and club advisors for leadership and active involvement.
Organizations
Prospective Teachers Association
The Prospective Teachers Association is an organization with membership open to education majors and College faculty. The purpose of the PTA is to promote the importance of education, provide communication for prospective teachers, provide information about educational issues, establish good relationships between faculty and aspiring educators, develop a professional attitude in prospective teachers, and provide opportunities for educational service.
