Mount Olive College and Wake Tech Partner to Enhance College Transfer
MOUNT OLIVE— Mount Olive College (MOC) and Wake Technical Community College signed a partnership agreement today that will enhance and expand options for community college students. The Mount Olive College Advantage (MOCA) allows associate’s degree graduates from Wake Tech to transfer seamlessly into the full range of bachelor’s degree programs at any of Mount Olive College’s six locations in eastern North Carolina.
Under the arrangement Wake Tech students will be eligible to apply for all state and federal financial aid. Other components of the agreement include:
• Mount Olive College will guarantee admission and a seamless acceptance of 64 credits from Wake Tech Associate of Arts or Associate of Science graduates with a GPA of 2.0 or higher into all Mount Olive College degrees in accordance with the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities Comprehensive Articulation Agreement.
• Provide guaranteed admission and acceptance of appropriate transfer hours, up to 64 credits from AAS programs with a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Wake Tech AAS graduates will receive up to 18 hours of general education credit, with the remainder to be allocated as either elective credit or credit toward major, as evaluated by the MOC Registrar’s Office in accordance with the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities CAA.
The partnership between MOC and Wake Tech is what Dr. T. J. Arant, provost at MOC, says will create an excellent opportunity for community college students to continue their education and prepare them for the future.
“This agreement is in keeping with the commitment of Mount Olive College to offer high quality education,” said Dr. Arant. “Whether you’re a student involved in traditional programs, or one who needs the flexibility of our degree completion programs, we want you to have the chance to finish a four-year degree.”
Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen C. Scott agrees that giving students options is most important. “Agreements like this have a huge impact in the lives of people pursuing the dream of higher education. Our partnership with Mount Olive eliminates barriers and creates new pathways for students who are trying to better their lives through education. It tells our students we appreciate their efforts and want to open every door we can for them.”
The Mount Olive College – Wake Tech partnership enhances Mount Olive College’s relationship with the North Carolina Community College System, as a participating member of the North Carolina Comprehensive Articulation Agreement. It is also the latest in a series of new partnerships between Wake Tech and public and private four-year institutions.
