Who we are

The Information Technology department is here to support all students, faculty, and staff, full-time and part-time. We provide support for all of our locations; Mount Olive, New Bern, RTP, SJAFB, Washington Wilmington, and Jacksonville. This support is directed at all computer related operations of Mount Olive College both instructional and business related.

The Director, Robert "Bob" Pruett oversees all operations and is tasked with planning for future growth and services.

The DBA (Database Administrator), Gary Cox is responsible for maintaining several SQL database systems to ensure all information is as available to all that need it when they need it. The most critical of these would be PowerCampus which is the student information system to include grades. IQ Web is a subset of this and can provide a wealth of information through its web interface.

Systems Administrator, James "Craig" Marshbun is respnsible for all networking infastructure and network servers. This includes the network switches, firewalls, routers and wireless access points.

System Integrator, Mike Brashear is responsible for the integrating different systems to increase the availability of information between all systems. He is also responsible for all the Linux servers and their integration to the Microsoft Windows servers.

Systems Technician, Darryl Mitchell is also responsible for integration of different systems to increase the availability of information between all systems. He is responsible for the college's document management system and Linux servers, and how all of the above tie back into Microsoft Windows servers/the rest of the college's IT infrastructure.

System Support, Ricky Sharpe, Josh Marquez they are the first line of desktop support for fixing computer systems. They are also responsible for training and supporting our student workers. Additionally they maintain and adjust the Help Desk system (Footprints).

Video Conferencing A/V, Richard Orr is responsible for all equipment and training for the video conferencing rooms. Additionally he is responsible for checking and repairing classroom projector systems as well as the college's many SMART Classrooms.

Online Coordinator, Joyce Devonshire is responsible for all aspects of our on-line courses (Blackboard). She will assist and train the instructors and assist students having access issues. She is responsible for adding all students to the appropriate classes prior to the course start date.

Interm Webmaster, David Lee Bourgeois III is responsible for the technical design of the webpage. His responsibilities include PHP programming and SQL maintenance relating to the web site. He also provides training to all users tasked with content management.

What we do

Resident students; we will troubleshoot any network connectivity issues; assist in loading or reloading software to include the operating system. We will troubleshoot hardware failures and using student provided parts repair systems. We will also assist in recovery and backing up class work prior to reloading a system.

Non-Resident students; we will assist in troubleshooting connectivity issues to the MOC webpage, email, and on-line courses.

College owned computers; we will provide all support for hardware and software to include loading of any required software. We will also supply ink and toner for all college owned printers.

Faculty and staff personal computers; we will assist in troubleshooting connectivity issues to the MOC webpage, email, and on-line courses.

What we Do Not do

Resident students; we will not backup music or video files if your system needs to be reloaded. We do not provide any parts or supplies for computer repair or maintenance.

Non-Resident students; we do not provide on-site or carry in computer support. We do not have the ability to give this level of support.

Faculty and staff personal computers; we do not provide on-site or carry in computer support. We do not have the ability to give this level of support.

As of Fallof 06, we will no longer provide support for any operating system older than Windows 2000 and MAC OS/X.
