Mount Olive College Students

Student Success Center

The Student Success Center was formed as a department of Student Development in early 2007. The goal of this department is to equip students with the tools they need to achieve their academic, career, and personal goals. To this end we have combined the offices of Career Services, the Teaching and Learning Center, Advisement, Early Alert, and Disability Services all in one place. Here students can find the support they need to improve their skills, earn a degree, and find a rewarding career. For general information about the Student Success Center, take a look at our flyer.

Tutoring
Individual and small group tutoring in most subjects provided by qualified peer tutors and adjunct instructors. Tutors provide additional practice, reinforcement, and study tips related to the discipline or assignment. This service is coordinated through the Teaching & Learning Center.  For tutor requests and an explanation of how tutoring works at MOC, click here.

Career Services
Our professional staff provides personal career advising, mock interviews, and job search counseling. We host Career Fairs allowing you to gather data concerning careers and meet with potential employers. Contact Ann Peacock.

Disability Services
Students with documented physical, learning, or psychological disabilities can request reasonable course, testing, and/or campus accommodations. Students must register before receiving accommodations. How fast you receive your accommodations depends on how early you complete your paperwork.

Academic Advising
Students who have not declared a major are assigned an advisor in the Student Success Center. Any student, regardless of major, can stop by with questions or concerns about their academic progress.

Workshops
Writing, grammar, and study skills workshops help students further develop skills through participation, self-assessment, and helpful strategies and materials. Did you miss a TLC workshop? All PowerPoint presentations can be accessed on the website! Workshops are also conducted by the Career Center to help prepare you for the world after college.

Faculty Resources
Syllabus statements are available as well as referral forms for use when a student needs academic assistance. Faculty and staff in the athletic department referring students who are members of our various teams should use the form specifically for athletes. The TLC also actively recruits tutors in various subjects. If you have a student to recommend, use our referral form for potential tutors or contact the director. If you have concerns about a student and would like to refer him/her to the Early Alert System, you may do so here. Here is a great article on plagiarism!
