| Men's Basketball Dream Season Comes To An End: Mount Olive cut a 16-point second half deficit down to three, but the rally came up short as the second-seeded and nationally 24th-ranked Trojans fell to No. 7 seed Montevallo 84-70 in the first round of the Southeast Regional of the 2010 NCAA II Men's Basketball Championship Saturday at Augusta, Ga. The Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament champions end the season with a 25-6 record, tied for the second-highest win total in school history. High-fives were plentiful Monday as five different players belted home runs to spark nationally second-ranked Mount Olive to an 18-1 victory over Barton in Conference Carolinas baseball Monday at Scarborough Field. The win gives Mount Olive a three-game series sweep over Barton. The Trojans outscored the Bulldogs 39-2. Dan Hayduk and Bobby Leeper hit solo home runs, while Ryan Faison, Kyle Hinrichs and Thomas McAlpine all had two-run homers. Jeremy Nowak extended his season-opening hitting streak to 23. Curtis Hudson tossed six shutout innings for the Trojans. Mount Olive held Barton scoreless until the top of the ninth inning. Full Story |
Mount Olive moved up one more spot to No. 3 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Division II Top 30 Poll. The Trojans have also spent the past two weeks ranked No. 2 in the NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) Top 25 Poll, which will be announced Tuesday.
SOFTBALL SPLITS NON-CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER WITH CATAWBAErika Taylor's (pictured) two-run double sparked a three-run fifth inning and Sarah Saunders escaped a bases-loaded jam in the seventh as Mount Olive defeated Catawba 6-2 in game two of a non-conference softball doubleheader Monday at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field. NO. 2 BASEBALL SWEEPS BARTON IN CONFERENCE CAROLINAS DOUBLEHEADERMike Knox (pictured) homered in both games, while Sean Lydon and Carter Capps both tossed complete games to lead nationally second-ranked Mount Olive to a sweep over Barton in a Conference Carolinas baseball doubleheader Sunday at Scarborough Field. The Trojans took the opener 9-1 and won the nightcap 12-0 as Capps threw his second shutout of the season. Full Story
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL CLAIMS YORK COLLEGE CLASSIC CHAMPIONSHIP - CHRISTIAAN ROMBAUT NAMED MVPChristiaan Rombaut was named Most Valuable Player as Mount Olive posted a 4-0 record to the York College Men's Volleyball Classic at Jamaica, N.Y. The Trojans defeated New Paltz 27-30, 30-27, 30-14, 30-22 and New Haven 30-16, 30-18, 30-19 Saturday after winning both of Friday's matches. Full Story

MEN'S/WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD TEAMS CONCLUDE COMPETITION AT COASTAL CAROLINA INVITATIONALChristiane Maul placed fourth out of 25 non-Division I competitors (14th/46 overall) in the women's javelin and Joey Murphy was 14th out of 40 non-Division I competitors (25th/53 overall) in the men's javelin as Mount Olive competed in the Coastal Carolina University Track and Field Invitational Friday and Saturday at Conway, S.C. REBECCAH HECKE AMONG MURPHY OSBORNE AWARD FINALISTSWomen's soccer student-athlete Rebeccah Hecke is one of 11 finalists for the 2009-10 Conference Carolinas Murphy Osborne Award. The award recognizes excellence in athletics and academics. Hecke has a cumulative 4.0 gpa. The winner will be announced March 18. Full Story
KENDRICK EASLEY NAMED TO DAKTRONICS ALL-SOUTHEAST REGION MEN'S BASKETBALL FIRST TEAMKendrick Easley has been named to the 2009-10 Daktronics Division II All-Southeast Region Men's Basketball first team, as voted on by sports information directors in the region. Mount Olive placed 25 student-athletes on the 2009-10 Conference Carolinas All-Academic Team, it was announced Tuesday. The award recognizes juniors and seniors with at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Full Story
After placing among "others receiving votes" the previous two weeks, Mount Olive makes its first appearance of the season in top 25, coming at No. 24 in this week's NABC Division II Top 25 Men's Basketball Poll. The Trojans enter the NCAA Championship on a nine-game winning streak and have won 20 of their last 21 games. Full Story

JEREMY NOWAK NAMED CONFERENCE CAROLINAS BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEKJeremy Nowak, who batted .424 with three home runs in four games last week, has been named Conference Carolinas Baseball Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday. TROJANS WIN 2010 CONFERENCE CAROLINAS MEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP!Lamonte' Theus' tie-breaking floater and free throw with 8.9 seconds remaining lifted top-seeded Mount Olive to an 83-80 victory over No. 3 seed Anderson in the Championship Game of the 2010 Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Tournament Sunday at Kornegay Arena. The win gave the Trojans an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship. Tournament Most Valuable Player Kendrick Easley hit his first six three-point attempts and scored a game-high 27 points. Theus and Derek Staton were also named to the All-Tournament Team. Full Story
