Jenny Jackson Named To ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team
Mount Olive softball player Jenny Jackson earned Academic All-District first team honors for the second year in a row as the 2009 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 Softball College Division Team. Jackson, an Academic All-America second team selection last year, is again eligible for All-America consideration.
Jackson, a senior designated player/pitcher from Fremont, N.C., has a cumulative 3.855 grade point average majoring in mathematics with a minor in recreation and leisure studies. She earned Conference Carolinas All-Academic honors in each of the last two years. On the field, Jackson is a three-time All-Conference Carolinas first team selection and was the 2007 Player of the Year in the Conference. This year, she batted .319 with a team-high six home runs. Jackson was also nationally ranked among pitchers with three saves.
Jackson has a chance to become Mount Olive’s first-ever two-time Academic All-American. Last year, Jackson became the fourth Trojan student-athlete overall and second softball student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors. Heather Parker was a first team Academic All-American in 1998.
The ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America program is administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The Academic All-America Team is scheduled to be announced May 27.
