Rebeccah Hecke, Allison Czerski Win NCAA II Degree Completion Awards
Mount Olive College softball student-athlete Allison Czerski and women’s soccer student-athlete Rebeccah Hecke are among this year’s recipients of an NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award. The award is a scholarship for student-athletes who are completing their undergraduate degree after they’ve exhausted their athletics eligibility. An NCAA committee chose recipients based on excellence in athletics, academics and service and leadership. Czerski and Hecke both completed their athletics eligibility during the 2009-10 academic year and will graduate during 2010-11.
Czerski, a senior from Charleston, S.C., was named the 2009-10 Mount Olive College Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. She has a cumulative 3.78 grade point average majoring in English and is secretary for the Mount Olive College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. On the field, she became the Trojans’ starting third baseman late in her freshman year and remained the starter throughout her career. Czerski was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2009 Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament and earned Conference Carolinas Player of the Week honors during her sophomore year. A two-time Conference Carolinas All-Academic selection, Czerski will serve as a student assistant coach for the Trojan softball team this year.
Hecke, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, was a finalist for the 2009-10 Conference Carolinas Murphy Osborne Award, the top individual award in the conference. A transfer from North Greenville University, Hecke recorded a perfect 4.0 gpa in each of her first three semesters at Mount Olive and has a 3.96 grade point average majoring is exercise science. On the field, Hecke was a starter at forward and midfield. In her senior season, she started in 15 matches and tied for the team lead in assists. Hecke is also a two-time Conference Carolinas All-Academic selection.
