November 4, 2009 -Mount Olive College to Welcome Alumni Home
MOUNT OLIVE- Hundreds of alumni are expected to return to Mount Olive College on November 20-22 to participate in Alumni Weekend.
“The Pickle Classic Basketball Tournament which is one of the highlights of Alumni Weekend is the longest-running event at Mount Olive College other than commencement,” said Dianne B. Riley, director of Alumni Relations. “Although homecoming weekend is steeped in tradition, we have a number of new events planned for the weekend.”
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20
The 13th Annual Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament will swing into action at Southern Wayne Country Club on Friday at 12:15 PM. A casual dinner will be held in the Alumni Dining Room at 6:00 PM and will feature a performance by Free Spirit.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21
On Saturday from 7:00 -10:00 AM there will be a pancake breakfast sponsored by Andy’s for the Mount Olive College Women’s Softball Team; tickets are $5. The Recreation Majors Club will host a Cystic Fibrosis 2K walk/5K run at 8:30 AM. The public is invited to participate. There will be an open house on campus from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, and the Bookstore will be open from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM. At 11:00 AM alumni will be encouraged to attend the Alumni of the Year Awards Luncheon and Reunions with a special performance by the newly formed Mount Olive College Chamber Choir. The event will be held in Lois K. Murphy Regional Center. A 50-inning softball game will be held at 12:30 PM at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field. At 1:15 PM the 10th Annual Criminal Justice Seminar will begin in Rodgers Chapel with guest speaker Sergeant M. A. Ketchum. A Student Art Exhibit and Reception is scheduled from 1:00 until 4:00 PM in Laughinghouse Hall. The 4th Annual Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in Lois K. Murphy Regional Center at 2:00 PM. New Mount Olive College President Dr. Philip P. Kerstetter and his wife, Mary, will host an alumni reception at their home from 4:00 to 5:30 PM.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22
The Mount Olive College Undergraduate Alumni Association will host an Alumni Legacy Breakfast at 9:00 AM in Lois K. Murphy Regional Center. There will be a memorial service at the Alumni Cross Walk at 10:00 AM, followed by worship service in Rodgers Chapel. Lunch will be available in the cafeteria at 11:30 AM followed by a women’s alumni volleyball game at 2:00 PM.
PICKLE CLASSIC
The 44th Annual Pickle Classic basketball tournament will be held on November 20 and 21. Friday night’s tip-off begins at 5:30 PM with Barton vs. Virginia Union, followed by Mount Olive College vs. Mars Hill at 8:00 PM. The first game on Saturday begins at 5:30 PM with Barton vs. Mars Hill followed by Mount Olive College vs. Virginia Union at 8:00 PM. The 2009 Pickle Classic King and Queen will be crowned between the games. Advance tickets for the Pickle Classic are $15.00 for both nights and can be purchased at Kornegay Arena until Wednesday, November 18. Children 4 and under are admitted free.
