MOUNT OLIVE – Mount Olive College art and visual communication majors are preparing to feature their finest work in the annual spring Student Art Show on April 18th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Teresa Pelt Grubbs Art Gallery located in Laughinghouse Hall. The reception is free and open to the public.
This year's spring student show will feature seven seniors. “Four of our seniors majored in visual communication and three majored in fine art,” said Robert Murray, chair of the Department of Art and Visual Communications. “The work presented ranges from logo design and graphic design projects to the traditional media of painting and photography.”
This year's seniors are: Savannah Kosik of Camden, Olivia Jones Rishel of Benson, Chelsea Vinson Collins of Goldsboro, Samantha Kennedy of Trenton, Traycee Williams of Goldsboro, Samantha McKeel of Snow Hill, and J.R. Proffitt of Greenbrier, Tennessee.
“This year's seniors present very different directions and styles within each discipline of fine art and visual communication,” Murray stated. “I'm fortunate to have had the opportunity to interact with each of these students through portfolio development courses as well as graphic design courses. I've seen some steady growth and even stark changes of interest and direction from these students. The common thread that I seem to find in all our groups of seniors is skill development and maturity in their creative approach to their work. These seniors have that common thread, and yet they are still unique individuals who will apply their creative way of thinking in whatever path they choose in the future.”
The show will close at the end of May.
