MOUNT OLIVE – Forty six year old Cheryl White enrolled in Mount Olive College’s evening program so she could upgrade her career. “I wanted to get a better job, make more money, and put my skills and knowledge to work.” White graduated from MOC in August 2012 with a BS in healthcare management. She has already gotten exactly what she wanted from the program. “My degree has allowed me the opportunity to find a better, more enjoyable job.”
Cheryl’s husband, Bobby, found the motivation he needed to go back to college after watching his wife earn a degree. “I’ve wanted to go back to school for a long time,” Bobby explained. “Seeing Cheryl graduate, and a few months later get a much better job, definitely inspired me.” He is now majoring in management of information systems in the College’s online program.
Bobby, 52, liked the idea of being able to attend classes once-a-week while working full time. He witnessed first-hand just how successful this schedule could be when utilized. “The flexibility of Mount Olive College’s program, and observing how Cheryl’s professors helped her along the way further influenced me.” Cheryl knew her husband would enjoy taking classes at MOC just as much as she did. “He can’t wait for his class every Thursday,” she revealed.
Although he’s just started, Bobby already knows what it takes to finish. “It’s all about time management,” he explained. “I’m also a flight instructor on the side, so it will be twice as hard for me to find the time. I will have to make time for school. I’ve devoted myself to completing school this time, so I am going to do it.”
Without the accelerated format at Mount Olive College, going back to college would have been nearly impossible for Bobby and Cheryl. “I’m really grateful that Mount Olive College has afforded the working person the opportunity to go to school in this format,” said Bobby. “It gives us the chance to finish school and gain advancement in our careers.”
Cheryl and Bobby White reside in Selma. Both plan on attending graduate school in the future.
